Commissioned Portrait Procedure

I am devoted to expressing the beauty of the human form in my portrait commissions. A hand-painted portrait is a very special way to honor business leadership and achievement and is meant to last for hundreds of years. It also makes a wonderful gift for family and friends. In order to create this type of art, I use the highest quality Belguim linen, archival papers and paints that are available today. My goal is to capture not only a likeness but to produce a wonderful work of art. There is nothing like having a painted portrait that is done with skill and sensitivity for generations to enjoy.

The first step is when you and I discuss where the portrait will be hung, size, format, setting, clothing, mood, personal objects and other aspects. At this time an agreement is signed by both parties and a 50% non-refundable deposit is given.

The second step is when I travel to the client's location to take photographs. I prefer to visit the subject in their home or office, and they may be asked to sit for a short period of time. Usually sketches and photographs are done at this time. Next I decide which pose I believe will be the most pleasing and a photograph will be sent to the client for approval. If client cannot arrange for a sitting he or she may supply a personal photo but it must be of excellent quality. I will make a judgment on the usefulness of the photo.

The third step is when the portrait is then painted - usually taking between 2 weeks to 6 months depending on the size. A final sitting may be arranged to finalize the portrait. Balance of payment is due on delivery.
